Not until she was back into the routine of her daily life did Virginia allow herself to admit just how nervous she had been about returning home. She had felt like a different person on Toralina, and a part of her had wondered uneasily if she would revert to the woman she had been before the trip once she was back in her normal surroundings.

But as she dressed for a dinner date with Ryerson a week after the trip back to Seattle, Virginia looked at herself in the mirror and smiled with secret delight. She had changed, and the change appeared to be permanent, even if it wasn’t clearly definable. It was there in her eyes, and she knew Ryerson could see it, just as she could. The change was visible in other ways, too.

The dress she was wearing tonight was not as daring as the infamous one Ryerson had disapproved of on Toralina, but it was decidedly more adventuresome in style than the sort Virginia had been accustomed to buying before she went to the Caribbean. It was true the bra and panties underneath were still made of functional, plain white cotton, but things were changing.

The woman who looked back at her from the mirror was far more confident now in her sexuality. She was bolder, more free spirited. The woman who had swum naked in the sea off Toralina Island was quite capable of contemplating sitting nude in a hot tub with A. C. Ryerson, for example.

Unfortunately neither she nor Ryerson had a hot tub.

But that was a mere detail, Virginia thought as she started to fasten the bracelet in place on her wrist.

The point was, she could actually consider the idea.

The light flashed on a small mark inside the clasp of the bracelet. Virginia paused and gazed at it closely.

It was a tiny crest, she realized. Someday it might be interesting to see if a jeweler could identify it.

An hour later when she was seated across from Ryerson at a cozy restaurant in the old section of Seattle known as Pioneer Square, she decided to bring up the subject that had been on her mind earlier.

„Have you ever thought about putting in a hot tub?“ she asked breezily, chewing on a bread stick that had just been brought to the table.

Ryerson glanced up from buttering his own bread stick. There was a flicker of surprise and then a suspicious glitter in his eyes. „A hot tub? Now that you mention it, no. I’ve never considered the idea. Until now, that is.“ He paused thoughtfully, his gaze drifting to the bracelet on her wrist. „It could be done. There

’s a spot that would be perfect for it at my island place. I want to take you out there soon, by the way.

What made you start thinking of hot tubs?“

Virginia shrugged innocently. „I was just remembering that night we went swimming in the sea and that thought just sort of naturally turned to hot tubs.“

„A logical chain of thought,“ Ryerson said approvingly.
